No later than yesterday, we were writing about a possible announcement from Sony Ericsson, which we thought ready to launch a new Walkman series slider handset together with a new music accessory. Today, it was confirmed that Sony Ericsson officially launched its latest Walkman series mobile phone, the W705 aka Rika.

The official announcement lists some of its technical features, which reveal a mid-level handset: HSDPA (3.6 Mbps), Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g, DLNA) connectivity, FM radio with RDS, FM receiver, 3.2 Megapixel camera with flash, as well as secondary camera for videocalls, 2.4 inch display supporting 262k colors, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, Bluetooth 2.0 with support for A2DP, Shake control, SenseMe, TrackID, Walkman 3.0 and YouTube client.

Camera images, geo-tagging and Google Maps are available, but only by using the phone’s signal as it lacks a built-in GPS receiver. In terms of storage space, W705 features 120MB internal memory, but also a 4GB M2 memory card that will come for free in the sales package.

“We’re really proud of what we have achieved in 2008 with our market leading mobile music range,” said Ben Padley, Head of Global Music Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “Combining premium design and best-in-class sound quality with super-fast access to a host of digital content whether it be from PlayNow arena or via the web, we really are offering the most feature-rich mobile music experience available today.”

The Wireless Home Audio System MBS-900 can connect wirelessly to any mobile phone through Bluetooth connection and promises to offer crystal-clear sound through the high quality, dual speaker and sub-woofer system. The MBS-900 music accessory features monochrome OLED display and touch keys. It will be available at the beginning of 2009.
