Leaked more than a month ago, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been recently confirmed by the Japanese-Swedish joint venture via Facebook. According to the official post, the smartphone will be officially announced on February 13th.

Obviously, depending on the location the announcement will be issued at different hours, as follows: USA - Sunday 13th February 10:00PST, 13:00EST; UK - Sunday 13th February 18:00GMT; Europe - Sunday 13th February 19:00CET; India - Sunday 13th February 23:30IST; Japan - Monday 14th February 03:00JST; Sydney - Monday 14th February 05:00EDT.

Xperia Play “PlayStation Phone” has also been confirmed for Vodafone UK, although pricing and specific availability are still unknown.

The device is said to come with a 4-inch LCD display with 854 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as multi-touch capabilities.

It also boasts a 1GHz application processor from Qualcomm with an Adreno 205 GPU, 512MB of RAM, which should be enough to play almost any compatible game available in the Android Market.

In addition to the fact that the device will be running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it seems that Xperia Play is also capable of scoring very high in benchmarks.

According to the guys over at Engadget, the mobile phone is capable of scoring 1,689 on Quadrant and 59fps on Neocore, as well as 35 MFLOPS on Linpack, as well as 43fps on NenaMark.

Sony Ericsson's Facebook announcement also includes the official version of the leaked advert from the last week, which was also showed during the Super Bowl.

The PlayStation Phone will be introduced one day before the 2011 Mobile World Congress starts, during an event that will take place at the same time with Samsung Galaxy S 2's announcement.
