Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is expected to soon bring to the market a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, the PlayStation Phone, which was already confirmed to be on its way to the market as the Xperia Play device.

The upcoming mobile phone, still unannounced at the moment, was handled in China, and both photos and videos with it made an appearance into the wild, along with a new set of specs (or confirmation on what was rumored before for this handset).

Among the known hardware specs of this device, we can count a Qualcomm Adreno 205 GPU, which would be paired with a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 application processor, the same as in other new, high-end Android-based smartphones.

Apparently, the handset vendor has made new advancements in bringing the final touches to this handset, and the device is performing much better than before.

A recent article on Engadget notes that the upcoming PlayStation Phone hit an impressive 59.1fps benchmark in Neocore, and a 1,733 score in Quadrant. However, since the phone is not final yet, the actual performance levels it would be able to deliver when launched on shelve might be higher.

Other specs of the new handset would include a 4-inch LCD touchscreen display that can deliver a 854 x 480 pixels resolution, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and LED flash (no 720p video recording, it seem).

At the same time, the new device should include 512MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space, micro-USB port, and a second mic for noise cancellation.

Info on the games that would run on it lack at the moment, but, since the PSP Go is much lowered spec'd than this, fans would certainly be able to taste some very appealing titles.

Some of the previous rumors suggested that the handset might become official sometime in February, but no official confirmation on this emerged for the time being. Until more in unveiled, have a look at the photos and videos available with the device, courtesy of IT168 and Engadget.
