For the thumb and not the stylus

The touchscreen mania has 'contaminated' Sony Ericsson too, as they are now working on a way to keep up with the huge offer coming from its competitors. Not only are they working on a revolutionary device that should enter the iPhone look-alike mainstream, but the company also wants to release a new special interface.

It's all rumors now, but the possibility of Sony Ericsson soon releasing a new high end touchscreen enabled mobile phone is increasing as time goes by. It's currently named Maria, although it's not 100% sure that they'll stick with this name. Sony Ericsson now looks to evolve at the same pace as other handset producers are, and to bring out on the market some top devices using the most appreciated high-end technology.

This producer's efforts of bringing a handset capable of topping the iPhone should also trigger its interest in a new interface. From the leaked image which surfaced the Internet, it looks like it will be one designed for thumb use rather than with a stylus. Other producers also found this alternative to be better and easier to use, so why shouldn't Sony Ericsson throw it in as well?

It's great news to see that a top handset producer is thinking of taking its cellulars to the next level, but little innovation seems to come along. Just as most "iPhone killers" almost identically resembled Apple's handset, thumb-use interfaces bring the same large buttons. Samsung did great with the awarded Croix on the F700 mobile phone, which sets the demands for Sony Ericsson even higher.

An excellent user interface is almost crucial in a touchscreen enabled handset. At this moment, there are many other smartphones with capabilities higher than those of the iPhone. Still, its popularity and interface make it the customers' favorite over many other similar, even more evolved devices.
