Today, Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson unveiled that it appointed Cathy Davies in the role of Global Head of Communications and PR, after last week's announcement that Aldo Liguori will step down from that position. At the same time, the company confirmed that Steve Walker, who is currently acting as Head of Marketing, would become the new Global Head of Marketing. Both decisions enter into effect as of March 1st.

The new appointments are expected to offer Sony Ericsson the possibility to continues with its strategy of becoming the leading provider of Android-based devices with its Xperia smartphones.

As part of this move, the company came to the market with new, appealing handsets based on Android, including the first PlayStation certified smartphone in the world, the Xperia PLAY.

“Cathy and Steve have worked closely together on a number of highly successful operational marketing projects in recent years and bring excellent complementary skills to Sony Ericsson’s senior management team,” Bert Nordberg, President & CEO, Sony Ericsson said.

“As we move into the next stage of long term growth plans, they have a central role to play in delivering a brand experience that that is second to none in the smartphone sector and creating lasting relationships with consumers the world over.”

Steve Walker served the company in different positions in time, including Head of Product Marketing and Head of Portfolio Planning. In his new role, he will report directly to Sony Ericsson’s EVP and Head of Sales and Marketing Kristian Tear.

“It has been extremely rewarding to play a key role in Sony Ericsson’s journey to becoming a leading player within smartphones. I am delighted to take over responsibility for marketing at a time when we have so many exciting new product experiences to communicate and share with passionate consumers around the world,” he said.

Cathy Davies served Sony Ericsson as Head of Brand & Strategy. In her new position, Cathy will report into the President & CEO Bert Nordberg. She would oversee the entire PR team.

“I’m delighted to be leading the Communications and PR team at a time when the company is moving into such an energizing phase both as a business and from a communications perspective. I look forward to working with the team to build on the strong foundations already in place,” Cathy Davies said.
