Although the very first Google TV products have hit the streets just a few weeks back, it seems like the recent troubles that have struck Google's platform has forced Sony to take drastic measures, cutting the price of their Google TV enabled Blu-ray player with a whopping 25 percent.

As most of you probably know, the Google TV platform was developed by the search giant together with Intel, Sony and Logitech, the last two companies being also the very first manufacturers (and the only ones until now) to release Google TV enabled devices.

Although all of these units have managed to create quite some hype around them when first introduced, the Google TV platform failed to get the success Google was after as some of the reviewers that got their hands on these units called them a bit to geekish for their own good.

Furthermore, media conglomerates have blocked their content from being displayed on Google TV devices, making Google path to your living room extremely difficult.

As a result to all these problems, Sony seems to have addressed the platform's biggest drawback, its price, all the Google TV enabled units being particularly expensive.

However, after the price cut, Sony's Blu-ray player will come down to a more reasonable $299, compared to the $399 previously asked for the device, especially considering its limited outputs.

As TechCrunch points out, this move is highly atypical for Sony, since the Japanese company usually prices their products right the first time, price cuts coming only when a successor is going to be launched, the recent 25% drop in price hinting us that Google TV is in great trouble.

Finally, although we can't actually be sure why did Sony went this route, I am sure that, at $299, this will become a great deal more attractive for many users out there.

And, who knows, maybe this will actually lead to growth in popularity for the Google TV platform making it a mast have in every living room out there (exactly as Google wants it).
