One of the most important executives working at Sony has said that the company's PlayStation Move motion tracking system, which launched in the middle of September, has a greater chance of success in the long term than the rival Kinect from Microsoft.

Andrew House, the boss of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has told MCV that, “We’ve got a whole range of experiences that serve the broadest audience and that is a far better long-term bet. You can only sustain a certain amount of momentum just based on trying to ram product at people based on a strong marketing push. It really will be content that defines it.”

His statements come after he also commented on the pre-launch marketing campaigns for both devices, saying that Sony might have not been as present in its public space with Move but that the media dominance of Kinect does not necessarily translate into more sales and more long term interest.

To prove the success of PlayStation Move House has stated that demand for Move at the moment is “in excess” of pre-launch internal predictions from Sony.

Sony has already said that it will offer support for Move when Killzone 3, the first-person shooter from Guerrilla Games, comes out in February of next year and showed at Gamescom how the game could be played with nothing but the Move controller and its navigational add on.

The only similarly hardcore game that Microsoft has announced Kinect support for is Forza Motorsport 4, set to also come in 2011, but it's not clear whether the motion tracking device will be used to actually control the vehicle or just move around in a viewing mode.

Both Microsoft and Sony are trying to create an as large installed base as possible for the Kinect and Move in order to then convince developers to deliver more content for the two motion tracking platforms.
