The executive producer working on the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 racing simulation from Polyphony Digital and Sony has announced that players who would like to have the best experience while playing the game will need to have no less than 10 GB hard drive space ready for the game.

Kazunori Yamauchi is the main man behind Gran Turismo and has offered information about the title over the development process, lately saying that the game is still not yet done even though it has a launch date of early November.

Now a full Twitter message from Yamauchi, as translated by the power of Google, says “If you work at least a 256M-byte, 10G can play comfortably and free bytes. The RT @ Poric4u: @ Kaz_Yamauchi GT5 How much capacity is installed? I, 40GB PS3 has a.”

A little big of the question seems to be missing at the end there but it's pretty clear that those players who are fans of the experience and would like not to have any data transfer from the game disk interfering with their racing will need to clear up 10 GB of space on the drive of their home console.

It's not clear what “smooth” means and whether the space will affect the frame rate in any way and Sony has stated that the install if entirely optional.

Gran Turismo 5 is probably the most eagerly awaited PlayStation 3 exclusive set to arrive this fall after a chain of delays that have made the fan base more interested in the game and have also set a higher bar for success.

The new racing game will have more than 1,000 cars that fans can enjoy, with 200 of them getting special attention, which includes complex interiors and full damage models.

Gran Turismo 5 is set to arrive on November 2 in the United States and one day later in Europe.
