The lead designer working on Gran Turismo 5 says that his game is not yet finished despite the fact that the launch date of November is fast approaching.

Gran Turismo 5 is a racing simulation that Sony, as the publisher, and Polyphony Digital, as the developer, hoped to show the capabilities of the PlayStation 3 and go up against Forza Motorsport 3, an Xbox 360 exclusive, when it was launched last year.

The project was affected by delays after delays, testing the patience of fans and leading some to call it “vaporware”.

Now the game has a launch date for November in both North America and Europe but it seems that the game is not yet finished and ready to get to gamers.

A post on Twitter from Kazunori Yamauchi, who is the lead designer working on Gran Turismo 5, reads, “GT5 is getting to where it will be finished shortly.”

Previous statements from the developers said that the game was close to completion a few months ago and Kazunori himself talked about the percentage of completed content in the game approaching 90.

The executive has also stated that during previous Gran Turismo projects the development process also continue up until the last possible moment before the Gold version of the game needed to be sent to manufacturers to put it on physical disks.

When it is finally finished and launched Gran Turismo 5 will offer more than 20 tracks that players can race on, with variants offered in order to get to 70 racing experiences.

There are about 1,000 cars simulated by the racing title in two categories: Premium cars will get fully detailed interiors and a complex damage system that changes how the look and perform on the track; Standard cars will have little interior modeling and will have no damage model.

A full list of vehicles that will be featured in Gran Turismo 5 has not been released but the developers have confirmed that they will simulate electric vehicles for the first time in the series.
