MTV Games and Harmonix are announcing that, this week, gamers can pick up songs from bands like Skillet, Switchfoot and Thousand Foot Krutch, whose roots go to the Christian rock scene but that also gained mainstream appeal. The new songs for Rock Band can be downloaded on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii.   Those who play on the last two platforms can get the songs today from the Music Store, while those gaming on the PS3 need to wait until April 8 in order to also get access to them.

The tracks players can download this week for their favorite music simulator are: “Feel Good Drag” from Anberlin; Hawk Nelson playing “Live Life Loud;” Skillet performing “Monster;” “Stand in the Rain” from Superchick; “Meant to Live” by Switchfoot and “Fire It Up” as performed by Thousand Foot Krutch. Harmonix says that all the songs offered are master recordings, enabling the player to experience the music exactly as they hear it.

Harmonix and MTV Games are not delivering these songs as a unified pack and those who want to get them individually will need to pay 160 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360, 200 Wii Points on the Nintendo home console, which is the equivalent of about 2 dollars.

The two companies in charge of the Rock Band franchise are stating that there are 1,148 tracks, which can be obtained from the various releases of the series and from the download-only store, and that more than 65 million downloads have been registered since November 2007.

At the moment, Harmonix and MTV Games are preparing to launch Green Day: Rock Band, a videogame based around the history of the punk band, while also working on another possible 2010 release, Rock Band 3.
