The Brown family is being investigated for felony bigamy but that’s not the only price they’re paying for agreeing to do a reality show for TLC, “Sister Wives,” since one of the wives has also lost her job as a result.

Kody Brown and his four wives were on Oprah the other week, where they talked about how the reality show has changed their life by making them subject of an investigation, and how going public affected their career.

While Kody, the husband, says that everybody around him has been very supportive, for Meri, the opposite was true since she lost her job and was shut out.

“I’ve been in this career for about 10 years, and I’ve been fairly private about it,” Kody, who works in advertising sales, tells Oprah.

“I had good friends. They understood me, and I was their token polygamist friend,” he goes on to say. Kody has now 4 wives, 13 children and 3 stepchildren.

“Eventually, the entire company found out that I was [a polygamist], and the tolerance and acceptance has been beautiful,” Kody adds.

Therefore, going public with the show changed nothing about his life, but not the same can Meri say, who claims she’s devastated for being let go after TLC started airing their reality show.

“They felt that they needed to protect the company, I think,” Meri says of her dismissal from the mental health industry.

“It actually makes me really sad because I loved my job. It breaks my heart, definitely... But I understand where they’re coming from,” Meri explains on Oprah.

While she’s heartbroken over the loss of her job, Christine says she’s happy not to leave the house and be the designated stay-at-home mom, taking care of the kids, cleaning and cooking.

“It’s beyond me to not like it. I love it,” Christine says. All the other wives have (or had, in Meri’s case) jobs outside the home.

As noted above, the Browns are now being investigated for felony bigamy. Even if authorities rarely press charges in cases like this, this time they will probably make an exception because they feel the TLC show is promoting and encouraging the polygamist lifestyle.

While this is going on, the network has aired footage of Kody and Robyn’s wedding, which, as we also informed you recently, took place a few months ago and was partially taped for the show.
