North Americans have every reason to be happy now and hope for some really hot parties this summer since the hit super-party game SingStar has been released by Sony on their PlayStation 3 consoles. The game, initially announced as SingStar: Vol 2, has been released under the name of SingStar PS3.

The PS3 debut of the beloved franchise will be made, as it should, on a Blu-ray disk containing no less than 30 chart-topping songs and videos from today's hottest artists like The Killers, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Outkast, R.E.M., Radiohead, Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls. Also, as you probably know from the PS2 version of the game, you will be able to access a catalog of hundreds of other songs which can be downloaded for $1.49. To bring you the real numbers: over 200 songs are available and 25 to 50 new songs will be added by Sony every month, so you can rest assured that your parties will be the best and hottest of them all since your music will always keep the spirits high.

"The worldwide success of SingStar continues to spread across North America due in large part to its casual-friendly, social gameplay," said Jeff Reese, director, software marketing, SCEA. "PS3 has allowed us to evolve the SingStar experience, growing beyond simply expanding the library with new tracks. Adding new next-generation features such as the SingStore and My SingStar Online, SingStar PS3 is the complete party package with an ever-growing downloadable catalog, global community-driven content and innovative, social networking features".

The features Reese talks about are simply amazing: for example, by using the PlayStation Eye cameras and the My SingStar Online service, players can become global stars by capturing a video and sharing it with the entire SingStar community. For those who are a bit too shy, there will be the option to record only the audio performances. And this will definitely be a success, since Sony reported that following the European release of the game, over 20,000 videos have been shared on the game's official website. And now, it's the Americans' turn!
