The issues appear to be only for lenses that incorporate an internal motor

Japanese camera and lens manufacturer Sigma has just issued a warning regarding the compatibility of their lenses with the new Nikon D5300 camera.

It appears that only Sigma lenses that incorporate an internal motor are affected by this issue, which means that no HSM lens will work correctly on Nikon D5300.

Sigma prepares a new firmware version for all their HSM lenses, which will be available for download tomorrow, November 20.

Without this new firmware version, all Nikon D5300 users that own an HSM Sigma lens will encounter various problems regarding the OS (Optical Stabilizer) and Live View Auto Focus functions.

The new firmware can be downloaded via Sigma Optimization Pro and using a Sigma USB Dock can be easily applied to any compatible Sigma lens you own.

If you don't own a Sigma USB Dock, you can contact your nearest authorized SIGMA distributor to upgrade your lens firmware.
