Angry Birds creator Rovio has released an official statement confirming the obvious that its new Bad Piggies game reached the number 1 spot in the US iTunes App Store in just over three hours after its September 27th debut.

Marking the fastest rise to the top of the charts for a Rovio game, Bad Piggies lets the players take control of the pigs from the “Angry Birds” games, driving them through mayhem using custom-build machines.

Rovio proudly adds that Bad Piggies is also its third #1 bestseller release in a row during 2012, following “Angry Birds Space” and “Amazing Alex.”

“It's been an incredible launch, both for the game and for ‘Bad Piggies’ as a brand,” says Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio.

“We have an amazing audience who have shown fantastic support for all of our games throughout the year. Our fans have given ‘Bad Piggies’ an incredible reception – we can't thank them enough!” added Hed.

The Finnish development studio also reveals that countries all around the world marked the launch of “Bad Piggies” with all sorts of activities.

For example, London put up a giant King Pig to float over the Battersea Power Station. Shanghai's Citigroup Tower and Taipei's 101 Tower turned green all night on September 27th, the company said.

Rovio ends its announcement with a teaser regarding the first update scheduled for Bad Piggies.

“‘Bad Piggies’ will get the first free update, with a new episode titled 'Flight Into The Night', containing more levels, unlockable content, and exciting plot twists in the pigs' quest for the eggs.”
