Shazam, a company enabling mobile phone owners to use their handsets to identify tunes, announced that its technology has been embedded in the Samsung BeatDJ and BeatDISC, unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

The new BEAT Edition mobile phones are expected to become available globally by April and May 2009. The handsets include touchscreen technology, high-quality sound and features designed starting from iconic jukebox imagery. The new Samsung BeatDJ and Samsung BeatDISC are aimed at setting up a new standard in Samsung’s music phone series.

Both devices feature Samsung’s intuitive DISC User Interface and are also completed by Bang & Olufsen audio technology, while also sporting an advanced music application that allows for music to be located, bought and recommended. At the same time, the new handsets will also come with the Find Similar and Find Tag features that offer users the possibility to enhance their music experience.

Find Similar has been designed to suggest similar music tracks based on other files they have tagged. When a track is tagged, the solution provides recommendations for similar songs based on the behavior of around 35 million users around the world. Find Tag has been built to help users find details on a track in case they have incomplete or incorrect information on the track. The application is able to find correct metadata including title, artist, album and genre for a track and to add it to the file.

According to Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, the two companies have a long history together, and Shazam can be found embedded in many of Samsung's handsets. “We’ve worked closely with Samsung to incorporate feedback on how we could build on the existing Find Music service and these new features for Samsung’s latest handsets offer an even greater music experience for their customers,” said Fisher.

Samsung users will be able to discover more info on their music, while also being able to join a vast community of music lovers to leverage their music experience. According to Younghee Lee, vice president of Global Marketing Team at Samsung Electronics, the mobile phone maker thinks that its users will enjoy their music even more through Shazam's popular music recognition service, as well as via the recommendations engine solution provided.
