The new handset is focused on HD and multimedia capabilities

Korean mobile phone maker Samsung unveiled on the first day of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, one of the top-of-the-line handsets to run under the S60 5th Edition platform, namely the Omnia HD, also known as the i8910. The main focus with this brand new device is on the HD and multimedia capabilities.

“The HD video recording feature enables you to capture precious moments in HD (720p) quality, enjoy HD content on HD TV via DLNA technology and share real-time live video as users shoot it via qik.com. The 16: 9 screen of QHD display with 16M colour and dual stereo speaker reveal a whole new world of mobile multimedia experiences on the move, enabling users to enjoy SD (Standard Definition)/HD (High Definition) videos in cinema-scale quality with caption. Brilliant Convergence Allied to the industry-leading 8MP camera which allows you [to] take digital camera-quality photographs on your phone, the Samsung Omnia HD ensures you capture the best possible photographs of your friends and family,” is what Samsung had to say about the handset.

The new Samsung Omnia HD includes an 8-megapixel camera that features Auto-Focus and Power LED Flash, as well as Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Shot, Panorama Shot, and video capabilities, including support for DivX, XviD, H.263, H.264, WMV, MPEG4, RV 24fps@HD (1280 x 720p). The new mobile phone comes with video recording functionality, DLNA & HD TV out, and Video Editing capabilities.

A 3.7-inch AMOLED screen capable of a 360x640 pixel resolution with Auto-Rotating functionality allows users to look at taken photos or recorded videos. The new handset also includes Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Compass, Accelerometer, FM Radio with RDS, support for audio formats including MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, as well as Dual Stereo Speaker and DNSe 2.0.

Other specs of the new Samsung Omnia HD include HSUPA 5.76Mbps and HSDPA 7.2Mbps support, microSD memory card slot, GPS with integrated compass “the navigation touch control and voice guidance via dual stereo speaker provide drivers with easy and safe navigation,” Intuitive “3D interface,” Samsung Mobile Widget, and a 1500 mAh battery.

The new Omnia HD will be available in 8GB and 16GB versions, depending on the internal capacity of the device.
