Shazam, the leading mobile music discovery provider all around the world, announced on Tuesday that its mobile application was available for download online through the new OVI Store by Nokia. The app is meant to offer users the possibility to discover music on Nokia handsets and online, while the company stated that it had been chosen as a strategic partner in the new music apps category from the Nokia software solutions portal.

Those who are already familiar with Shazam know that the application enables users to discover music from a database of over eight million tracks, while doing nothing other than holding the mobile phone towards a song that is playing for only a few seconds. The application then provides information on the track and the album, as well as on the artist. In addition, Shazam also enables users to share music with others, via both mobile phone and the Internet.

“Having already established the vast popularity of our application amongst music lovers worldwide, Shazam is excited to be able to offer the magic of music discovery to customers of the most established handset manufacturer in the world” said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam. “Having Shazam on the Nokia OVI Store enables end users to take music discovery to the next level and combine this with their Nokia Comes with Music package.”

According to the company, users of a Nokia mobile phone who would like to purchase the Shanzam application to benefit from its features on their handset will only have to pay a one-time €5 fee for the mobile music discovery solution, and then enjoy it for the rest of their life on their Nokia device. The company also announced that Shazam’s S60 v5 and S60 3.1 and 3.2 applications will come only to users in the UK, US, Australia and Singapore at first, while those living in other Western European nations will be able to enjoy it starting with September 2009.
