14 DAY TRIAL // A few days ago, word got out that teen idols Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were an item, after they were photographed together on what TMZ billed a pancake date. Selena is now denying the reports, saying she and Justin are just good friends.
Speaking with MTV News, Selena took the time to do some rumor control, by rubbishing reports that she and The Biebs are more than good friends, even saying that she thinks of him as a brother, as The Improper reports.
According to the singer, both she and Justin were due to perform at the same event, which meant they had more time to spend together – so why not grab a few pancakes as well, she says.
People are reading too much into what was just an outing of two friends, Gomez explains. People also need to understand that she sees younger Justin as her brother.
“It was pancakes. Who doesn’t like pancakes? We were both performing in the same place so we went and had pancakes together. That’s all it is. All innocent,” Gomez says of the so-called pancake date.
“I love Justin. When he first started to come over from Canada his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid. And I feel like a big sister now, ’cause I want to protect him,” Selena explains for the same media outlet.
Of course she loves him, she says, but it’s not something The Beliebers have to worry about. “So I’m always very cautious with him, but he is so talented and he’s so sweet. Now he’s just become one of my good friends,” she says.
As we also reported at the time, when TMZ broke the news that the two may be dating, it also had a photo of them leaving the pancake house arm in arm – with insiders saying they had been holding hands all the time they were inside.
