Ugly low end candybar

One of the most basic mobile phones out there will soon be available at Sprint for those who want to use their handset only for communication and nothing more. Sanyo S1 has been recently approved by FCC and was already awaited to hit the US market.

At a first glance, Sanyo S1 looks pretty repulsive, with classic, unappealing design and no personality. Moreover, it will come only in black, which makes it vanish next to the huge number of such devices. Still, a pleasant surprise comes in the matter of sizes. At 112 x 45 x 11.2 mm and 70 grams in weight, Sanyo S1 proves to be one of the slimmest deices out there, although one far from having the best design.

Another advantage is that the handset comes equipped with A-GPS, to make sure the user is always on the right track. One drawback of this feature might be that of the small 1.7 inch display screen, which is far from what the user might need for best viewing maps.

Specifications also show that connectivity is available through Bluetooth and USB. The web browser on this phone is far from what other more evolved handsets are capable of offering. Moreover, it is also Java enabled, which opens the door for a wide range of games and applications to customize it.

The phone also brings business and parental controls, as well as compatibility with many Sprint services. Moreover, it is also TTY/TDD enabled, which makes it possible for people with hearing problems to communicate through text messages.

Sanyo S1 will soon be available from Sprint, starting with January 2008. The price that the device will come for has not been revealed up to this point, although it should be a pretty low one, considering its overall performances.
