Today's smartphones and tablet PCs come with microSD memory card slots with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, yet a time will come when more external storage will be supported by them.

In fact, the first memory cards that offer more storage space than that are already available for purchase, coming from SanDisk.

We're referring here to the 64GB SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDXC Card that the company went official with only a few days ago.

With them, users will be able to easily double the amount of storage space they can add to their smartphones, as long as these devices pack a microSDXC card slot.

The high-capacity card is UHS-based, and can deliver data transfer speeds of up to 30MB/sec. The company notes that the new cards offer the performance capabilities needed for capturing Full HD videos on the go.

As stated above, the new memory card is compatible with any tablet PC or smartphone that packs a microSDXC card slot.

“Mobile phone sales are expected to reach 1.7 billion in 2014, and the majority of these handsets will include microSDXC card slots, according to Strategy Analytics, Slotted Phone Shipments Forecast, 12/10,” SanDisk announced.

“Mobile phones allow consumers to create and enjoy an increasing amount of digital content, ranging from user-generated Full HD videos to full-length feature films and videogames.”

According to SanDisk, the new high-capacity mobile memory cards are meant to provide users with the storage expansion options they need in a market dominated by digital content.

The SanDisk Mobile Ultra cards feature capacities starting at 4GB and going all the way up to 64GB, so as to fit all users' needs. They are available with MSRPs starting at $24.99.

"Our flash storage solutions help consumers capture more photos, load their mobile apps faster, share exciting moments with friends and preserve their memories for generations to come," said Bob O'Keefe, vice president, retail marketing, SanDisk.
