South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is reportedly preparing the launch of a brand new smartphone as soon as next year, one that would step out side of the already established manufacturing process by adding a cover glass with an integrated touch screen.

The news comes from Korean site, ETNews, which claims that the leading handset vendor would aim at bringing the new smartphone on the market sometime during the first half of the next year.

For the building of this device, the company would choose to adopt a technology supposedly called G2, and will also eliminate the use of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) film, something that should result in the building of a slimmer touchscreen.

The adoption of this new technology would offer Samsung the possibility to bring to the market a smartphone slimmer than currently existing devices, rumor has it.

Moreover, the new cover glass would also provide better image quality, though it's unclear which technology it is being compared with.

Samsung's Mobile division is reportedly set to invest no less than 31 billion won in Samsung Fiber Optics, which will be responsible for the manufacturing of the new screen.

At the moment, Samsung is a leader in AMOLED technology, present on a wide range of mobile phones on shelves at the moment, including the company's own devices, as well as on handsets from other makers, such as HTC or Nokia.

Recently, Samsung unveiled new advancements in AMOLED technology, including larger, better panels, not to mention that recently announced flexible AMOLED screen, which might be included on devices as soon as next year.

Of course, that does not eliminate the possibility that they are working with other technologies as well, but it remains to be seen whether the rumor will indeed pan out, as well as what the said smartphone would have to offer to users.
