In the beginning of this month, wireless carrier Optus launched the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone on the market in Australia, offering it exclusively for a few weeks, and the handset is now for sale through Virgin as well.

The mobile phone can be acquired in the country for a $5 monthly repayment on Virgin's Easy Cap 49, and was already made available through various partner retailers, it seems.

The handset was put for sale on other monthly plans as well, and it goes for a $0 upfront cost on the Smart Cap 69 and the Topless 99.

At Optus, the smartphone went for sale for $0 upfront on the $79 Optus Cap, but it seems that Virgin users are able to purchase it for a little less.

Most probably, the wireless carrier will lower the cost as well, since Telstra and Vodafone are set to launch the Galaxy S II as well, as soon as July.

Vodafone already made the handset available for pre-order for its customers, but did not offer a specific release date for it for the time being.

Galaxy S II is Samsung's latest flagship device running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and packing a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor inside.

The mobile phone was unveiled in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with a 1GHz CPU inside, but got delayed for about a month, and its processor was bumped up by 200MHz.

However, the rest of the handset's specifications remained unchanged, including the 1GB of RAM, or the 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for adding up to 32GB of external storage into the mix.

The phone also packs 3G connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth support, built-in GPS receiver, as well as an 8MP camera on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, and a font-facing shooter for video calling.

Samsung Galaxy S II also sports pre-loaded Google Mobile Services, including Search, Maps, YouTube, or Gmail, as well as access to the Android Market.
