Reports of Samsung working on a bendable tablet have been flying around for a while now

The tech world seems to have taken a particular interest in electronics with flexible or curved displays and many proclaim these particular sort of gadgets represent the future.

And you wouldn't expect Samsung to stay out of this sort of thing, would you? But unlike other companies that have been focusing on flexible smartphones, the Korean tech giant is planning to take things to a new level, by bringing out a tablet with foldable display.

You might remember that back at MWC 2014 a rumor had it that Sammy would be holding a VIP event behind closed doors where it would show a bendable tablet. We have no idea of knowing if that really happened or not, but reports proclaiming Samsung has such a product in the pipeline won’t die out.

Now a new report coming out of Korea is saying that Samsung is planning to launch a tablet with a tri-fold design, something reminiscent of a wallet, which will be rolled out sometimes next year, says Android Authority.

A while ago, a patent detailing a tablet design somewhere around these lines also surfaced in the media and now it appears Samsung will actually be porting the design in real life.

According to the unnamed sources familiar with the matter, the tablet will sport an 8 or a 9-inch form factor and will have folding capabilities. It is said the smaller size will apparently better accommodate the flexible capabilities.

Moving on, the tablet might come equipped with an OLED full HD display resolution, and according to the information, Samsung is already circulating a bunch of prototype models in the wild, so at some point we might end up spotting one of them somewhere.

Considering prototypes are already in existence, it could make sense to assume Samsung might be ready to unleash the device as soon as next year. However, we don’t know whether the tech manufacturer is hoping to introduce the device on its home market or everywhere else too.

But given that the tablet will potentially arrive with an OLED display plus full HD resolution and will also bundle technology allowing it to fold twice, the device could end up in retail with a pretty chunky price tag, making it inaccessible to the average consumer.

Surely, foldable gadgets are a neat thing, but keep in mind that the technology is still in its infancy so it might be a while before truly optimized products make it on the market. It’s also interesting to considerwhether Samsung will opt for Android or its own Tizen OS for such a device.
