Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics officially unveiled a new member of its GALAXY Tab series of devices, one that features the same 7-inch screen as its predecessors, namely the GALAXY Tab 3.

The new slate will arrive on shelves with a design similar to that of previous tablets in the series, but will pack upgraded specs and capabilities, so as to provide users with a much better experience than before.

The new device was made official with a 7-inch touchscreen display on the front, capable of delivering a WSVGA (1024 x 600 pixel, 169 PPI) resolution, as well as with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor inside, paired with 1GB of RAM, Samsung announced.

The tablet PC also packs a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, paired with a 1.3MP camera for making video calls. It sports 8GB / 16GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

The specs list of GALAXY Tab 3 also includes a Li-ion 4000 mAh battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, USB 2.0, A-GPS, and Accelerometer, Geo-magnetic, and Light sensors.

Running under Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, the slate will also offer support for 1080p video playback, access to Samsung Apps and Samsung Hub, and support for a nice range of apps and services (some of which will be available on it right from the start).

Some of the enhancements that GALAXY Tab 3 brings along include:

- Easy Handgrip and Portability: Its compact, one-hand grip form factor ensures users can hold comfortably for hours as well as store in a pocket or small bag for reading and entertainment on the go. The sleek and stylish design encompasses thinner bezel than the previous GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0).

- Better Multimedia Performance: Powered by a 1.2GHz Dual Core processor, the device allows for faster downloads and sharing, while providing easy access to videos, apps, games, and the web. Offered with either 8/16 of internal storage plus up to 64GB of expandable memory, the device has plenty of space to hold your favorite photos, music, apps, videos and more.

- Enhanced User Experience: The GALAXY Tab 3 7-inch is equipped to better capture life’s moments in stunning clarity and resolution with its 3-megapixel camera rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front camera. Combined with the latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), it allows users to share photos, videos, and life’s special moments through a few quick taps and swipes.

Samsung will make available two flavors of the GALAXY Tab 3 7-inch tablet PC, one with Wi-Fi connectivity inside, set to hit shelves in May, and another with 3G capabilities, which should be launched in June. Both will be launched gradually around the world.
