With a new year almost upon us, mobile phone makers in the world are revising their plans for gaining more ground on the market in the next 12 months, and South Korean handset vendors Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are among those considering new strategies to increase their share on the market.

The two companies managed to grow significantly lately, especially in the smartphone area, and they are expected to gain even more foothold on the global market in the year to come.

Samsung Galaxy S and LG Optimus One are among the most popular Android-based devices that arrived on the market in 2010, and they should be followed by many other smartphone models in 2011, a recent article on DigiTimes reads.

The two handset vendors are seeking to strengthen their position on the market, sources from Taiwan-based handset makers state, suggesting that the two would focus both at the high-end of the market, as well as on the entry-level and the mid-range.

Both companies have a strong portfolio of touchscreen devices, which should prove beneficial in the months to come, especially since they both have in-house panel technologies and production capacities.

According to the news site, Samsung is expected to take full advantage of its Super AMOLED (active matrix OLED) technology, with future devices.

As for LG, it should bet a lot on the adoption of LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) panels in the first half of the next year, while being expected to move to AMOLED in the remaining of the year.

Samsung is expected to show a great focus on the high-end and entry-levels of the market, with new Android smartphone models set to land on shelves throughout 2011, and with new Windows Phone 7 handsets set for launch in the second half of the year.

The company plans on tightening the competition with vendors like Motorola or HTC at the high-end of the market, the news site reports.

As for LG, the maker is expected to bring to shelves a number of around 30 smartphones in 2011, most priced at US$150-400. Android and Windows Phone 7 are expected to be OSes of choice for LG too during the next year.
