One of the few Galaxy S variants in the US that didn't receive the long-awaited Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade, T-Mobile's Samsung Vibrant is now offered for free. Customers who want to take advantage of the new deal will have to sign up for a new two-year contract or extend their old T-Mobile contracts for another two years.

Furthermore, it seems that the deal is only available online and while the supply lasts, so customers who wish to get the Vibrant for free will have to order it from the carrier's website.

Samsung Vibrant is T-Mobile's variant of the original Galaxy S and it was released in the summer of 2010. The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor and still runs on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) mobile platform.

Even though the device was rumored to receive the upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) for quite some time now, the Vibrant will probably be one of the last Galaxy S devices in the US that will be officially upgraded to version 2.2 of the operating system.

The Vibrant features a large 4.0-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

It comes with Gorilla Glass display, TouchWiz 3.0 UI, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, as well as Swype text input.

The smartphone sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and video recording capabilities (720p@30fps).

Other key features of the device include: HSDPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, DLNA function, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, 512 MB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included), GPS with A-GPS support, 3.5 mm audio jack.

Samsung Vibrant is powered by a standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 432 hours of standby or up to 6 hours 30 minutes of talk time.
