No multi-touch, though

Samsung brings another shy attempt of using touchscreen performances in its mobile phone production. The release of this company's SPH-M4650 smartphone model should be a giant step for them, but proves to be rather disappointing.

Having a multi-touch phone from Samsung surely sounded like everything to wish for, but the SPH-M4650 one fails to bring this feature at top performances. What it does bring is tactile feedback when dialing with the touchscreen. Its official name is Multi-touch, but the device actually supports only single touches of its 2.8 inch screen. The display proves to be pretty large and great for navigation and viewing captures.

The true power of this device is actually revealed when looking at the hardware. It runs on a powerful Marvell 624MHz PXA300 processor, which makes it capable of supporting the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional operating system. All this is packed in a slim case of only 14 mm in thickness.

Samsung SPH-M4650 comes equipped with a 2 megapixel camera, capable of bringing average quality captures and nothing more. The phone also includes T-DMB, which should make it possible to provide TV and radio broadcasts, a technology popular especially in Korea. Moreover, the smartphone also features Internet full-browsing that enables users to see the normal full screen format and zoom in/out.

The phone has high chances of being nothing more than an attempt from Samsung to keep up with its main competitors that are now bringing about a huge number of touchscreen enabled devices. The producer also added tactile feedback to respond to the dissatisfaction of many people who find touchscreen use difficult because it lacks the precision of old fashioned buttons.

Samsung SPH-M4650 will be available through LG Telecom, at a price of about USD 550, although it is not officially set yet.
