Samsung is planning to re-enter the US computer market with the recently released ultra-portable X-series of laptops and the new NC10 netbook. The company plans to compete with Apple's MacBook Air, as well as with all the other netbooks currently available, coming from the likes of ASUS, MSI or Acer. These being said, it would be only natural to assume that the Korean company has some major plans where its computer business is concerned.

This week, the company will introduce its new ultra light notebooks, the X360 and the X460, on the US market, and they are expected to provide users here with an alternative to Apple's ultra-light MacBook Air. Apparently, the Korean company is quite confident in the marketing potential of its latest ultra-portable computer systems – so much so that it pits them in a direct confrontation with one of Apple's most distinct MacBooks. “These products really go after Apple and Sony. This is the MacBook Air killer,” Bret Berg, the senior product manager for Samsung's U.S. computer division, said in an interview.

One of the main advantages of Samsung's new X-series of portable computer systems is that it allows users to equip their notebook with either a hard drive or an SSD solution. In addition, the X360 comes priced at $2,499, and equips a 128GB SSD, while Apple's MacBook Air, featuring only 64GB of flash-based storage, is selling for $2,598.

Aside from the new X-series of ultra-portable computer systems, Samsung will also debut its NC10 netbook on the US market. This small-sized, ultra-portable computer system is going to compete with other Atom-powered netbooks on the US market. According to the company, the NC10 is placed between the lower cost Eee PCs and the smallest fully-fledged notebooks out there.

Samsung's announcement comes at a time when the world is preparing for the release of the new MacBook portable systems from Apple, one of which at least is expected to be priced under $1,000.
