South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly preparing the launch of a new Android-based handset, one which would prove to be the true successor of the Galaxy S smartphone, and which would sport the model number GT-i9100.

It appears that the new mobile phone might arrive on the market as Galaxy 2, and that it would be powered by a dual-core processor.

According to a recent tweet from Eldar Murtazin, the handset is already in his hands, and looks pretty impressive. He also says that he has a Sony Ericsson Anzu to play around with.

“Playing with se anzo and galaxy 2 aka i9100. Se is nice but sams is so technically advanced. Dual core etc,” the said tweet from Eldar Murtazin reads.

According to the guys over at Engadget, there is a possibility that the chip inside this device would be Samsung's Cortex-A9-based Orion CPU, which emerged only a few days ago.

When available on the market inside mobile devices, the Orion chip should pack a dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, complemented by a quad-core Mali 400 GPU.

The processor is expected to arrive in mobile phones sometime next year, though some suggest we might see some of them launched before 2010's end too.

As for Samsung GT-i9100, there are not too many details available on it at the moment, though more might start to emerge soon.

It still remains to be seen what exactly this high-end Android smartphone from Samsung would turn out to be in the end.

In case the mobile phone maker is indeed preparing the release of a Nexus S device, just as rumored before, this GT-i9100 smartphone might arrive on shelves with about the same specs, but with a different software on board.

The Nexus S is expected to run stock Android, while the GT-i9100 might include Samsung's TouchWiz interface too.

All in all, it appears that Galaxy S will soon get an Android-based brother to keep it company at the high-end of the market, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
