Samsung's Omnia handset has been recently updated with a long expected Samsung Omnia 16 GB model. The news comes along with a photo of the stated device, which seems to be somehow the most solid word on the mobile phone maker, after yesterday's news which unveiled some of its plans for the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The new Samsung Omnia 16 GB looks pretty much the same as the currently available Omnia 8GB model. The mobile phone comes with support for quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) connectivity, as well as for single-band UMTS / HSDPA (2100 MHz - HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps) frequency standards.

The handset will include a 3.2-inch WQVGA display with touchscreen capabilities and able to deliver a 240 x 400 pixel resolution and support for 262,144 colors. Behind the display, the phone includes a graphics chip with 3D acceleration and support for Direct 3D, as well as a Marvell PXA312 624 MHz mobile processor, 256 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM.

The mobile phone maker packed Omnia 16 GB with a Samsung TouchWiz GUI, along with a 5-megapixel camera that features flash and auto-focus, a secondary QCIF front camera for video calls, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi 802.11b / g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR capabilities, microSDHC memory card slot that supports up to 32MB of removable storage, as well as FM Radio with RDS, and accelerometer and gravity sensor.

The Samsung Omnia 16 GB includes a 1440 mAh Li-ion battery, which should be able to provide users with about 11 hours of continuous talk time. The handset measures 112 x 56.9 x 12.5 mm and weighs 122 grams. Hopefully, Samsung will bring this device at the MWC show in Barcelona as well, so it will be less than two weeks before we could find more details on the phone, as well as some info on its price and availability.
