Samsung might be planning a 2-in-1 machine for the future

Yesterday we heard that Samsung was working on a foldable tablet device of sorts, one that the company plans to launch on the market in 2015.

And now it’s time for some more Sammy innovation. The US Patent and Trademark Office just granted Sammy a new patent recently, one that details an interesting looking notebook-tablet hybrid, reports Tablet-News (via PatentlyMobile).

After Computex, I had the feeling that 2014 will prove to be the year of the 2-in-1s, so it’s not at all unexpected that some companies are looking to bring their own input to the frame factor.

The filing doesn't provide a lot of details, so we’re unable to tell you whether this an Android or Windows device, as the patent says only “notebook computer”.

To be fair, the 2-in-1 seems pretty similar to the ASUS Transformer Pad series, but the way the tablet part connects to the keyboard dock looks a little different. This is achieved by sliding the display into the keyboard.

Judging by the Transformer Pad line’s popularity, it could make sense that Samsung wants to dive into that, too.

It could be that Samsung is designing a very thin and light 2-in-1 in which Intel’s Broadwell chip architecture will go, but right now this is all pure speculation on my part.
