Yesterday, October 20, in London, Samsung announced that its latest smartphone based on S60 and Symbian OS, the Samsung I7710, would be presented at the Symbian Smartphone Show in London on October 21 – 22.

The phone was never a stranger to headlines, but it surely is good to know that it will be available for purchase. Starting from November 2008, the device will be available in Russia, and will be introduced on other markets as well afterwards.

President of Samsung’s Telecommunications Network Business, Geesung Choi, said, “The introduction of I7110, Samsung’s new Symbian OS-based smartphone, is a testament of our strategic focus on the open OS phone portfolio. With a strong partnership with Symbian and the increased momentum in the smartphone market, Samsung will continue to offer a wide selection of mobile phones meeting the needs and lifestyles of today’s consumers.”

Samsung's I7110 is based on Symbian OS v9.3, and the company says it has optimized it for performance, so that it will bring users the highest level of power efficiency and platform security to a mobile phone. The fact that the device is based on S60 3rd Edition means that users will be able to download applications from S60's app library, among others.

I7110 has a large QVGA 320 × 240, 262K-color, AMOLED display that will make the photos taken with the 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash look really good. Also, it comes with an FM Radio with RDS, a microSDHC card slot that will support up to 16GB, 80MB of built-in memory and a built-in GPS, and plenty of other features.

Of course, the phone packs a lot of goodies and considering the fact that it's going to be a high-end one, it will, most likely, cost several hundred USD. Fortunately, there is always the two-year agreement option that should take some edge off the price.
