South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics brought to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in mid-February a brand new high-end smartphone it designed with Google's Android operating system on board, the Galaxy S II, and the said phone has just been spotted through FCC's hallways.

At FCC, the Samsung Galaxy S II has received all of the necessary approvals to be sold in the United States, which suggests that it might not be too long before Samsung announces the handset's availability in the country.

The predecessor of this handset, namely the Samsung Galaxy S, has been already launched in the country, on the airwaves of all major carriers, and through some smaller wireless operators as well.

The device that received the said FCC blessing sports the model number GT-I9100, and comes with support for AT&T bands (850/1900Mhz GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSPA).

However, there is no guarantee that the device would indeed become available for purchase at this wireless carrier, at least not under the name of Galaxy S II.

However, we should note that this phone, which sports a Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, would hit shelves with the dual-core Samsung Exynos 4210 application processor inside (plus the Mali-400 MP GPU), at least this is what the model number suggests.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung confirmed the availability of another Galaxy S II model, GT-I9103, which would sport Nvidia's Tegra 2 application processor inside.

The specifications list of this device would include the said 1GHz application processor, along with a 4.27-inch touchscreen display that boasts a WVGA resolution, and an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities.

Moreover, the mobile phone arrives on shelves with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing webcam, 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, GPS receiver, the usual range of sensors, and other capabilities too.

The new handset runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform. No specific info on when might Galaxy S II arrive on the market in the United States emerged for the time being.
