Rumors about the upcoming availability of the Galaxy R in India leaked three weeks ago, but an official confirmation about the phone's release has yet to be received.

However, it appears that the guys over at AndroidOS (via tipster), discovered the Galaxy R is now available for purchase from various retailers, including Flipkart.

Unfortunately, it appears that the handset is overpriced as Flipkart is now offering the Galaxy R for Rs 27,438 (about $560 or 412 EUR).

In this regard, the Galaxy S II is available for a bit under Rs 30,000 (about $612 or 450 EUR), which is a better deal for customers who can afford the Galaxy R.

Samsung Galaxy R is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz user interface on top and features a 4.2-inch SuperClear LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Still, the Galaxy S II offers an enhanced visual experience thanks to its slightly larger 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen with similar 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which is protected by Gorilla Glass display.

The Galaxy R packs only 8GB of internal memory, whereas the Galaxy S II offers 16GB (or 32GB) storage. Additionally, the Galaxy R includes 1024 MB of RAM, 2048 of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Among other differences between the two high-tier smartphones, one can notice the superior 8-megapixel camera and the dual core 1.2GHz Exynos processor of the Galaxy S II, opposite to Galaxy R's 5-megapixel camera and dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU.

The smartphone offers the full range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, HSDPA and HSUPA, as well as Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and HS support.

According to Samsung, the phone's 1650 mAh Li-Ion battery should last for up to 620 hours of standby time of up to 9 hours of talk time.
