Samsung Galaxy Nexus made its debut in the UK earlier this month. The phone is still available for free on select plans from various carriers, including Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile.

However, it appears that major retailer Phones4U tries to attract more customers that did not feel like giving in to the latest Android 4.0 platform yet.

The retailer announced a January sale for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and slashed the phone’s upfront price rather than the monthly contract fees.

Basically, customers who want to grab the Galaxy Nexus cheaper on plans can do so with Phones4U’s new January sale.

For example, Vodafone’s offer on a £31 (48 USD or 37 EUR) monthly plan was cut from £169 (260 USD or 200 EUR) to £69 (105 USD or 82 EUR), while the carrier’s £119 (185 USD or 140 EUR) upfront fee for the £36 (55 USD or 43 EUR) monthly plan was removed completely.

Phones4U offers quite a number of discounts on 12-month, 18-month, 24-month and 36-month plans ranging from £39 (60 USD or 45 EUR) to £159 (245 USD or 190 EUR).

Those who have patiently waited for the Galaxy Nexus price to go down can check out Phones4U “January sale” promotion here.

The first smartphone to bring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile platform in the market, Samsung Galaxy Nexus was introduced in the UK more than two weeks ago.

Unfortunately, the handset was plagued by several bugs that were discovered as soon as the phone hit shelves.

However, Google already deployed two software updates, which fix some of these issues, and revealed plans for a third maintenance update that will be released within the next days.

For the time being, the Galaxy Nexus suggested retail price remains unchanged £529.95 (820 USD or 630 EUR), but it may drop to under £500 (775 USD or 595 EUR) in Q1 2012.
