Android fans living in India rejoice, as Samsung has finally confirmed that the first smartphone to be delivered with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, the Galaxy Nexus will hit shelves in about one month.

There are no additional details on Google’s decision to bring the Galaxy Nexus in India so late next year, but it appears that the company wanted to avoid Nokia’s marketing campaign for the Lumia series.

In this regard, Nokia announced back in October that it will bring the Lumia 800 and 710 in India, so Samsung and Google chose to launch their Ice Cream Sandwich device one month later.

Samsung India confirmed the company’s plans to debut the Galaxy Nexus in the country via its official Twitter account: “Nexus is expected to launch in the last week of January. Will let you know the exact date as we get more information.”

Obviously, there’s no word on the Galaxy Nexus price tag, but it’s likely to match Lumia 800 or Motorola RAZR.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone to bring Android fans the latest version of Google’s mobile platform, the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Unfortunately, the smartphone was plagued by several issues even before its official launch, which is the main reason that Google already delivered two software updates and is about to roll out the third by year’s end.

Hardware-wise, the Galaxy Nexus is equipped with a dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.

Furthermore, the device packs 16GB of internal memory and 1GB of RAM, but lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion.

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera on the back that features autofocus, LED flash as well as the zero shutter lag function that allows for instant capture of the exact moment that the photo is taken. A secondary front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video-calls is included as well.
