A new year has started and everyone is waiting to see what it will bring in terms of digital camera innovations. With CES 2014 less than a week away, Samsung has already announced its new flagship mirrorless camera, the NX30, as well as the successor of the award-winning Galaxy camera.

The new Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 comes with a stylish look and packs the same 16.3MP BSI CMOS image sensor and a huge 121.2mm (4.8-inch) HD Super Clear Touch LCD Screen display as its predecessor. The similarities don't stop here, as the new model also features the same f/2.8-5.9 21x optical zoom lens (23-483mm - 35mm equivalent).

If you're wondering what was changed on the new Galaxy model, you should know that the camera comes with a more powerful 1.6GHz quad-core processor (1.4GHz previously) and double the memory (2GB of RAM) when compared with its predecessor.

In addition to that, Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 benefits from the latest features of the Android platform thanks to the integrated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS. Furthermore, you can now shoot even more photos thanks to the larger Li-ion 2000mAh battery that will probably allow you to capture over 400 shots / 120 min video recording with one charge.

Being part of Samsung's SMART camera line, the Galaxy Camera 2 comes with advanced Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities that allow you to instantly share your photos on your smartphone or tablet by simply tapping them on the camera thanks to the integrated Tag&Go function.

Moreover, using the new Remote Viewfinder app, photographers will be able to control their camera, including manual controls, with unprecedented ease using a smartphone or tablet.

For those of you who like to take “selfies,” the Galaxy Camera 2 comes with a “Selfie Alarm” feature that takes five consecutive high-res images that allow you to choose the desired self-portrait you like.

Pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed, but we know that the camera will come in black and white colors. If you want to find out more about the new Samsung Galaxy Camera 2, you can check out the official press release.
