Samsung Galaxy S II, the powerful Android-based mobile phone that South Korean handset vendor Samsung unveiled to the world in February, is expected to make an appearance on shelves at Telstra in Australia in July.

The company has just announced plans to make the new high-end device available for its customers in summer, but did not confirm specific info on the price tag this device might feature when released.

“We’re delighted to confirm that Telstra will bring the powerful Samsung GALAXY S II smartphone to our customers in July,” Warwick Bray notes on the wireless carrier's blog

“Running on the Telstra Next G network, the GALAXY S II will set new benchmarks for mobile Internet speeds in Australia.”

The Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone would be running on Australia’s only HSPA+ network, the carrier notes, adding that it would be able to provide users with download speeds up to twice as fast when compared to other networks.

“For our customers that means they will be able to surf the mobile web faster, stream video with less buffering, and access their social networks more quickly than ever before,” the said blog post reads.

The new mobile phone also comes with a wide range of other capabilities, powered by the fast dual-core 1.2GHz application processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM.

The handset also sports a 4.3-inch screen, along with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, front-facing camera for video calling, and an internal memory of 16GB, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for more storage space.

“We think our customers are going to love this super-thin smartphone which features an extraordinarily vivid 4.3-inch screen and one of the best cameras we have seen on a phone,” Telstra notes.

The Samsung Galaxy S II runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. It supports WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity too, as well as location-based services courtesy of its GPS receiver, and other services and applications as well.
