Mobilicity has quietly launched the Galaxy Q, a mid-budget Android smartphone. Customers can purchase the device for only $199.99 CAD outright.

Samsung Galaxy Q combines the advantages of a messaging phone and the new features offered by Google’s Android operating system.

Unveiled last summer, Samsung Galaxy Q was initially launched on the market with Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box. However, Mobilicity variant comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system integrated with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI.

Unfortunately, given the phone’s low hardware configuration, it’s unlikely that Samsung will offer Galaxy Q owners the option to upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Another highlight of the Galaxy Q is the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, which allows users to text much faster and more accurate.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Q features both an intuitive onscreen keyboard and a handy slide-out QWERTY keyboard, thus users get the best of both worlds.

In addition, Samsung Galaxy Q allows users to browse and download thousands of fun social networking, entertainment, and gaming apps via Google Play store, formerly known as Android Market.

Mobilicity does not provide any details on the phone’s processor and amount of memory, though it does mention the Galaxy Q packs a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Moreover, the carrier also confirms the smartphone will be delivered with a free 2GB microSD memory card in the sales package. There’s also a decent 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

On the back, the handset sports a mediocre 3-megapixel camera with LED flash and video recorder. It is also worth mentioning that Samsung Galaxy Q’s battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 312 hours of standby time or up to 3 hours of talk time.

In the connectivity front, the phone offers a wide range of options, including HSDPA (7.2Mbps), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, as well as built-in GPS and microUSB.
