South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has just announced the signing of an agreement with Microsoft for the use the Windows Phone 7 platform and of related application software on future devices.

According to the leading handset vendor, the Windows Phone 7 operating system should become a key component of the Samsung smartphone portfolio.

Moreover, the announcement was accompanied by news regarding the launch of several Windows Phone 7 devices from Samsung during the ongoing year.

The phone maker also notes that the new agreement confirms its long term commitment to adding Windows Phone 7 handsets to its offering, and that the new phones would be launched in 2010 on the market in Europe, the US, and Asia.

“For years, Samsung has been a key partner in bringing new Windows phones to customers all over the world,” said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate Vice President, OEM Division at Microsoft.

“Windows Phone 7 is an important release and we look forward to deepening our collaboration with Samsung on mobile devices and beyond, with our multi-screen strategy.”

The upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices from Samsung should pack the latest in hardware design and technology, the company notes, adding that Microsoft’s software should also prove beneficial for them.

The Windows Phone 7 operating system is aimed mainly at people interested in finding data, information and services that counts the most for them.

The new mobile phones should come to shelves with unique and diverse experiences from Microsoft, including Xbox LIVE, Office, Zune, Windows Live, Bing, and more.

“The addition of Windows Phone 7 devices to Samsung’s smartphone portfolio is a significant milestone,” Simon Stanford, Head of Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said.

“Samsung’s new Windows Phone 7 based smartphones will play a key role in reinforcing Samsung’s leadership in the smartphone market and commitment to providing a range of devices across a variety of platforms.”

While confirming its commitment to the Windows Phone 7 operating system, Samsung has announced that it would end its support for the Symbian platform.
