Mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has just confirmed officially that it would launch at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February the successor for its high-end Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.

The upcoming device already made it to the headlines a few times before, and is even teased on Samsung's own website as set for a February 13th unveiling at the said event.

This time around, however, the company also confirmed some of the hardware specifications that the new device would pack inside, such as a dual-core application processor, a recent article on Samsung Hub reads.

Previously, the Galaxy S 2 handset was rumored to come to the market with Samsung's own dual core application processor, codenamed Orion, and it seems that things are almost confirmed in this area.

One of the other interesting features about the new device that reportedly got confirmed by the handset vendor would be the Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, which should provide a better experience to users.

No other details on the upcoming mobile phone were unveiled for the time being, but all of them would certainly become official in the next few weeks.

Confirmation on the forthcoming Galaxy S 2 emerged at the company's announcement regarding the financial results for the fourth quarter of the last year.

Apparently, the company's telecommunications business did very well in the time frame, with over 80.7m phones sold, bringing the total number of devices sold for the entire year up to 280 million.

For the ongoing year, the company targets further growth, and should be helped a lot by the amount of smartphones it would be able to push to shelves.

Samsung already went official with new additions to the Galaxy family of devices, including the high-end Galaxy S 4G at T-Mobile, and should announce even more members of the series at MWC, it seems, with the direct successor for Galaxy S among them.
