While some Galaxy S owners out there already had the chance to tryout the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on their devices, those living in the UK would still have to wait for a few more weeks before the software is available for them, the handset vendor announced officially today.

The company confirmed that the Android 2.2 software update for its Galaxy S device would land on the UK market in November, and that it would be made available via its Kies desktop application.

“The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November,” the mobile phone maker announced.

“We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November,” it continued.

At the same time, the company unveiled plans to release a new version of Kies, so that its users can enjoy a smooth upgrade process.

Among the improvements the new Android 2.2 OS version is expected to land on Galaxy S with, we can count:

- Improved browser performance: enhances browsing, navigation and the 'pinch and zoom' feature - Enhanced user interface adding vivid colours and features to the android menu structure - Google Maps with Navigation: A GPS navigation system with voice guidance for a turn-by-turn navigation - Adobe Flash Player 10.1: the latest Flash Player for viewing video content - Enhanced user experience including message editing and the ability to save applications to memory card - Search in-browser: Google, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary Prior to Froyo's release, Galaxy S owners would be able to access video tutorials on how to upgrade. Samsung committed to delivering a step-by-step guide to the download process.

“Samsung are committed to providing our customers with the best possible mobile experience, and this upgrade enhances the incredible features of the Galaxy S handset,” Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland, commented.

“We also want the upgrade process to be simple and hassle-free for customers, hence the new version of our Kies software and the step-by-step video guides.”

The new Android 2.2 Froyo operating system should prove a great match for Galaxy S, which already comes with highly appealing specs.

The phone packs a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, complemented by a super-fast 1 GHz application processor, while Android 2.2 promises increased performance speeds when compared to previous versions of Google's mobile platform.

Last week, Samsung announced the availability of the OS upgrade for a series of markets, and some lucky users already managed to install it on their Galaxy S units.
