Users faced with more configuration options

It appears that Acer is going to provide a few more options for customers interested in the newly-introduced Aspire One 10-inch netbook. According to a statement from a company spokesperson, the recently-announced 10-inch Aspire One will bring options for either a Linux or XP operating system. In addition, the same netbook will be offered with a user's choice for either an SSD or a traditional HDD solution.

Earlier this week, an Acer spokesperson told ZDNet UK that the company's newly announced 10-inch Aspire One netbook “will be available with XP or Linux, and HDD or SSD.” The Linux-based model will be offered with the Linpus distribution. Unfortunately, users won't be able to take advantage of these options when the netbook will become available next month, for an approximate price tag of $450.

The news was somewhat to be expected, as Acer's first Aspire One netbook, which boasted an 8.9-inch form factor, also provided users with a choice for either a Windows XP or a Linux-based operating system, and an option for a solid-state drive or an HDD. The SSD-equipped version of the 10-inch Aspire One will provide users with a storage capacity of 16GB. At this time, there are no details regarding the pricing and availability of these new options.

Announced last Friday, Acer's new 10-inch Aspire One comes to provide users with the same Intel Atom platform that has been featured in almost every other netbook released in the recent months. The system boasts the already successful Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, combined with the Intel 945GSE Express Chipset. A later version of the netbook will be equipped with Atom's next-generation N280 processor, which will also add support for 2GB of memory, consequently improving the system's overall performance. In addition, Acer is expected to provide different configuration options, including a choice for an embedded WiMAX or 3G wireless technology.
