Sony has announced that development is advanced on SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo 3, a military-themed videogame that is set to arrive on the PlayStation Portable sometime during the winter of 2009. The game should offer both a single player campaign and a lot of multiplayer action via the Wi-Fi connection.

Sony says that the new game is going to continue SOCOM’s tradition of creating realistic and tough experiences, which test the players’ ability in finding solutions and their team work skills. The company states that tactics will be very important and that cooperation will be the key to tackling most of the missions.

The game tells the story of a team of Special Forces soldiers who are set to follow a former KGB agent, named Alexander Gozorov, who has important information regarding a possible attack with weapons of mass destruction on the mainland of the United States. The team needs to track him, fight off various other groups, in a series of missions that are described as being customizable. All the missions have been created with the help of the United States Naval Special Warfare Command.

SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo 3 is set to also offer a deep multiplayer experience, with players using the Wi-Fi connection in order to play together, compete online, communicate with complete voice chat support, fight over Medals and get high scores for the leaderboards that Sony should publish online.

Sony is pushing the new release in the long running series as another title in what it has described as the “year of the PlayStation Portable.” SOCOM has also been created for the PlayStation 3 and gamers like it a lot, even if it is was plagued by problems on release date.
