Ryan Reynolds reveals he has to choose between Deadpool and R.I.P.D, will only do one

To state the obvious, Ryan Reynolds is very much in demand these days. In fact, he’s so much in demand, he will have to choose between Deadpool and R.I.P.D., another comic book adaptation, which means the X-Men spinoff may not happen after all – not with him, at least.

Currently, the actor is promoting his latest film, “Buried,” which sees him expand to relatively new (for him) territories, away from action films and rom-coms.

As is usually the case with promo tours, questions about his next projects also pop up and, of course, fans want to know whether he’ll still do the Deadpool spinoff he’s been taking about ever since “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” came out.

Though it’s just days he said he remained committed to the project, in a recent interview with io9, the actor reveals whether the film will be made with him is not really up to him.

Right now, he’s being courted from all sides for various films and, for future projects, he will have to choose between the aforementioned Deadpool and R.I.P.D., that much is certain at this point.

Whether he’ll do the one or the other, is, again, not up to him because, as he puts it, the movie industry is as such that this type of things doesn’t depend on the will of a simple actor, no matter how big a star he is.

“People sort of ask this question, like I have any say in the matter. They’re both movies I’m interested in, they’re both movies that are in fast-track development,” the actor says.

“But I never say I’m doing a movie until I break for lunch the first day. Because it’s such a crapshoot, this industry. Everything’s so fickle and so contingent on so many factors, aside from just an actor,” Reynolds goes on to say.

The issue here is not whether just one or both films will be made, because interest guarantees both will see the light of day – however, just one will have him as leading man.

“And because it has an actor, and because these films have interested directors, it’s obviously likely that they’ll both get made. But I think it would be more likely that only one of them gets made with me,” Ryan says, driving the point home.

As fans must know, Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool in the “X-Men” spinoff “Wolverine.” Ever since that one came out, he constantly assured fans that he too will return in a spinoff of his own, which, so far, remains in pre-production limbo.
