One of the most successful developers of mobile software for smartphones, SPB Software has just been acquired by Russian search engine giant Yandex.

It looks like the main reason behind the acquisition is the SPB Software’s famous user interface, SPB Shell 3D. In this regard, Yandex states that the SPB Shell 3D will soon include its cloud services and technologies.

In addition, Yandex plans to start offering SPB Software’s main application for various mobile platforms to multiple carriers in country. Basically, this move will allow open up a range of opportunities for Yandex to partner with the players in the mobile market.

According to Yandex, as soon as its cloud services and technologies will be integrated within SPB Shell 3D, users will be provided with much easier access to its search capabilities that are now available on a wide range of mobile devices.

Mobile is a vital part of our growth strategy. The acquisition of SPB Software creates new market potential for us and a plethora of possibilities for innovative solutions for our partners. SPB Shell 3D is an ideal foundation on which to build up our mobile opportunity,” said Yandex's CEO Arkady Volozh.

There is no additional information regarding the rest of SPB Software’s applications, such as SPB Wallet, SPB TV, or SPB Time. It’s unclear if Yandex will allow SPB Software to continue to develop other mobile apps for some of the most popular platforms, or it will simply focus on the SPB Shell 3D user interface.

SPB Software is excited to join Yandex. This allows us to unite efforts in developing and marketing new cutting-edge mobile solutions. SPB Software will continue its mission to produce innovative mobile products of the highest quality,” added Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, CEO of SPB Software.
