Chinese solid state drive maker RunCore has just announced the introduction of a new family of SSDs known as the Glory V which were designed especially for being used for applications in harsh environments.

The new Glory V solid state drives are available in both the 2.5-inch and the 1.8-inch form factors and use either the SATA 3Gbps or the PATA interface.

In addition, RunCore also offers its clients the option of choosing between SLC and MLC Flash memory.

Opting for the former will limit the capacity of the SSD to 256GB, while the latter enables the Glory V to offer up to 512GB of storage.

As far as the performance of the drives are concerned, RunCore hasn't provided us with too many details and just stated that we can expect sequential read and write speeds to top at 240MB/s, while 4k random writes can reach 5,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second).

No matter the Flash memory installed, all the Glory V SSDs come equipped with a series of RunCore technologies such as Global Wear Leveling, SSD Life Guard and SSD Life Saver (consistently backs up existing data).

I addition, the Glory V also offers an optional intelligent self-erase function which once triggered, it can erase data in order to prevent information leak.

"How the reliability and stability could be improved while not sacrificing the SSD performance might be one of the major challenges that SSD manufacturers are facing,” said one RunCore representative in regard to these new drives.

“RunCore Glory V has passed a series of screening tests in full accordance with MIL requirements such as temperature, vibration, shock, salt spray - compliant with MIL-810F and GJB150 - can still exhibit superior performance in extreme environments,” conclude the company's rep.

Right now, no information regarding the availability date or the pricing of these new drives was made available by RunCore.
