Chinese solid storage drive maker RunCore just announced a new series of enterprise SSDs based on SandForce controllers that the company claims were specially tuned in order to deliver improved reliability and stability.

The new drives were released into the Kylin II series and initially the range will comprise five models with capacities going from 50GB to 400GB, while using the standard 2.5-inch form factor characteristic to most other SSDs out there.

At the heart of the all the units stands a second generation SandForce enterprise controller, which features native support for the SATA 6Gbps interface as well as eight memory channels that are to be connected to NAND Flash memory chips.

RunCore customers have the choice of choosing between 25nm MLC or SLC NAND Flash according to the company, but no information regarding the performance numbers that we should expect from these drives was provided.

However, as is the case with all SandForce SF-2200-based drives, the Kylin II series supports the DuraClass and DuraWrite technologies with full support for the TRIM command.

“Comparing it with consumer-grade SSD, the main features of Kylin II are its stability and reliability for data security,” said a RunCore official.

“Stability and reliability of storage devices are very important factors for enterprise-grade applications, many companies already have taken high expenses into account for data security or even for data recovery after data loss,” concluded the company's rep.

It remains to be seen how RunCore improved stability and reliability claims will manifest themselves in practice, considering that second generation SandForce controllers are notorious for their troublesome nature.

RunCore hasn't revealed any information regarding the price or the release date of the Kylin II solid state drives, outside of saying that these will launch “soon.”
