The first DS mod we've heard in ages. It still relates to Nintendo games...

Considering that some of the true Nintendo fans out there still have a Nintendo Entertainment System sitting in a drawer all dusty and beat up, along with some game cartridges of course, how would you feel about an adapter that allows you to run them 8 bit classics on the DS Lite?

Yes, I'd get excited over stuff like this too, but why didn't anyone think of this before, and not just for NES games, but for GameBoy titles and 16 bit SNES games? Surely it's possible.

"The CYBER Familator Lite plugs into your DS Lite's GBA adapter slot and lets you plug in carts from the old Nintendo Famicom (aka NES here in the states), and play them right on the DS screen. While it's designed to play Japanese Famicom titles, you should be able to play NES titles on it too if you manage to get your hands on a Famicom->NES adapter cartridge," technabob.com writes.

What intrigues me is that although Nintendo's handhelds have always been the most popular devices on the video games markets, it's still other devices such as Sony's PlayStation Portable that see the most hacks and mods. For instance, Sony's PSP can emulate Nintendo 64 games, 16 bit classics such as SEGA Genesis Collection titles, and even original GameBoy titles if my memory serves me right.

Nintendo's DS however, doesn't support that many mods, nor are modders that interested in hacking into it. The reality is that, the possibilities are endless with systems such as Sony's handheld, while the DS is rather limited as far as processing power and software compatibility go. Nintendo's machines practically allow only Nintendo original software to be run on them. Call them narrow minded or paranoid, but it worked just fine for them.

Isn't it funny though? This is the first DS mod we've heard in ages and it relates to Nintendo games.
