According to the company's VP, 'it's not out of the question'

It has been revealed in an interview with GameDaily.biz that a new Wii might be in the works over at Nintendo. George Harrison, Nintendo's vice president of marketing tried his best in providing a satisfying answer to the question: "Is a new model planned?"

"...it's not out of the question on Wii," said George Harrison "But we're not even to our second holiday yet, so it's kind of premature to talk about any revisions to the hardware itself [...] We tried to show [at E3] that there are a whole variety of games that were great for the existing and hardcore gamer, and that included everything from the games that used a Zapper like Resident Evil and Call of Duty but also things like Madden Football from EA, which can be a different experience [on Wii]."

"[But] We know there's going to be some purists that we're going to lose and they might be first to focus on the absolute last detail of perfect graphics and if they're willing to pay five, six hundred dollars for a PlayStation 3 (PS3) then more luck to them."

Of course, Nintendo may or may not have something new in the works as far as the Wii is concerned, but one thing the company definitely has to fix is that they're so damned casual. This generation of hardware was clearly in Nintendo's favor, despite the criticism the Wii received for its not so next-gen visuals and simple control scheme, so Nintendo needs to build upon this, fixing the two mentioned issues.

Then again, they can't turn their attention to hardcore gamers only either so Nintendo has to find a way to appeal everyone even better than before if they're going to come up with a newer, improved (and probably more expensive) system. A hard drive-enabled unit would be nice for starters...

But hey, just as the man said, they're "not even to" their "second holiday yet." Give them time.
